01Our story

Founded on what was missing in the room.

Tembeka Advisory is a board-level governance and leadership advisory firm, founded in 2026 by Nozibele Tshobeni after more than fifteen years in senior executive and board roles across telecommunications, banking, development finance and healthcare. The pattern she kept meeting was consistent: organisations under regulatory or financial pressure were receiving good technical advice from several directions at once, and no one was holding it together.

A solvency position is rarely only a finance matter. It is usually also a question of mandate, of board composition, of strategy that outran the balance sheet. Advice that treats these separately leaves the executive team to perform the integration — at precisely the moment it has least capacity to do so.

The firm was built to close that gap. We work with boards, trustees, audit and risk committees and executive teams in complex, regulated organisations — helping them make decisions that are financially sound, risk-aware and well governed, and then helping them deliver on those decisions.

What sets us apart is that the advice comes from someone who has carried the accountability herself: as chief executive, chief financial officer, board chair, trustee and audit committee member.

Tembeka

The standard we set

Our name reflects the standard we set: to be trusted and dependable — not only in what we advise, but in how we work, communicate and exercise stewardship over the confidence placed in us.

It is not a quality a firm can claim at the outset. It is the result of consistent conduct over many engagements, much of it unobserved. Choosing the word as a name was a way of accepting that standard publicly.

02Direction

Vision and mission.

Vision

We envision a future where organisations not only survive but thrive in an ever-changing global economy. We strive to be a trusted, values-led advisory partner — strengthening governance, enhancing decision-making, and enabling sustainable value creation that benefits both organisations and the communities they serve.

Mission

Our mission is to partner with boards, trustees and leadership teams to strengthen governance, enhance decision-making, and deliver practical, high-quality advisory solutions that drive sustainable value — combining technical expertise with a values-led approach to address complex challenges and create meaningful impact for stakeholders and communities.

03Values

Six commitments, stated plainly.

Six commitments that describe how we work, and that a client is entitled to hold us to.

Trustworthiness

We do what we say we will do — consistently, transparently, and reliably.

Integrity

We act with honesty and transparency, even when it is difficult.

Excellence

We deliver high-quality, practical work that meets the highest professional standards.

Collaboration

We work closely with clients and each other to achieve meaningful, lasting results.

Stewardship

We promote responsible leadership, strong governance, and careful management of resources.

The common good

We support decisions that create sustainable value for organisations, stakeholders and society.

04Stewardship

Advising on money that belongs to someone else.

A significant part of our work sits with organisations that hold funds in trust: medical schemes administering member contributions, development finance institutions deploying public capital, trusts and foundations disbursing grants to communities.

In that setting, governance is not an administrative overhead. It is the mechanism by which people who will never attend a board meeting are protected. We approach these mandates with the assumption that every disbursement, every control and every board paper may one day need to be explained to the person whose money it was.

It is also why we are candid about scope. Where a piece of work requires a licence, an accreditation or an independent party that we are not, we say so at the outset and help the client appoint the right person.

05Ownership and intent

A black woman-founded and led South African firm.

Tembeka Advisory is 100% black woman-owned and led. We state this plainly because it is relevant to the clients we serve, to the transformation commitments many of them carry, and to the question of who gets to sit at the table where consequential decisions are taken.

It is not offered as a credential in place of competence. The work stands on technical depth and executive experience. But representation at senior advisory level in finance, risk and governance remains uneven in this country, and the firm was built in full awareness of that.

Trusted stewardship. Decisive leadership. Lasting value.

The Tembeka idea

06Our approach

How we work matters as much as what we deliver.

Four principles guide every engagement, from the first conversation through to implementation.

Client-centred and collaborative

Working closely with boards, leadership teams and stakeholders to understand context, challenges and priorities — so solutions are aligned, practical and supported by those responsible for delivery.

Insight-driven and rigorous

Grounded in rigorous analysis and sound judgement, drawing on data, industry understanding and experience for clear, evidence-based insights.

Values-led and principled

A values-led lens on every engagement, ensuring advice that is ethical, transparent and stands up to scrutiny.

Practical and stewardship-focused

A focus on implementation as much as insight — recommendations designed to be actionable, sustainable and supportive of strong governance.

07Our partnerships

Specialists brought in openly, on their own merits.

Alongside our own team, Tembeka Advisory draws on a network of consultants, industry experts and professionals who bring specialised knowledge to an engagement, spanning both the public and private sectors. It means a client benefits from best practice and industry standards without being handed a generic solution.

Where a mandate requires a capability we do not hold — actuarial, legal, accredited administration, or an FSP-licensed intermediary for a regulated placement — we say so at the outset and the appointment is made transparently, with the specialist’s role set out to the board.
